Ahh yes, the respectability politics of rap, never attacking the industry that owns the rappers they despise.
And lets not act like old school rappers that spoke to all the issues above exclusively.
niggas forget (or are conveniently unaware) that most record labels dictate 99% of what goes into an album/song
although the golden age of rap was littered with bravado and violence, songs like that were considered taboo in a sense because nobody was monopolizing off that linear image.
The rap game is fundamentally different now and its not ONLY the rappers’ fault for buying into the lunacy but (mostly) the industry’s fault for telling rappers that only violence, drugs and sex will sell and LITERALLY not letting more wholesome rappers release their music. (i.e. Lupe Fiasco’s “Lasers”)
